What To Do With Your Vacation Souvenirs

Cleaning out that old storage closet can be a pain, but you finally got it done!  And in the process, you've discovered some old treasures that mean a lot to you, including souvenirs from trips you've taken in the past.  It seems such a pity to put them back in a box, and store them away for the next time you decide to clean out the closet, but do you really want to set them out on a shelf to get all dusty?  Why not frame them and hang them on the wall, to share your memories with everyone?

Make it Unique

The great thing about framing those souvenirs is that you have so many options to make them look great and represent your memories well.  Not only will you be able to choose from different materials for the frame, but you can decide what kind of mat you would like, how you want your items mounted, what style of frame you prefer, etc.  With so many options, it can be difficult to know where to start.

Let's say your souvenirs include some seashells you collected on the beach, pictures from the trip, and the old sandals you wore there.  Since this trip was to the beach, the look you may want to go for will be a little more relaxed, so a formal-looking frame wouldn't be right for this project.  Choose a material for the frame that would be fitting, like distressed wood.

Inside the Frame

You could use matting to separate and highlight each item, in a color that would complement the pictures you took.  This is a good way to keep the look organized and neat.  But let's say you prefer not to use a mat for this project, to keep it more casual.  In that case, a shadow box could be the best option for you, allowing you to fill the bottom of the box with those precious seashells, and mount the sandals and pictures on the back of the frame above the shells.

Pricing Your Ideal Look

Once you've decided how you want to showcase your items, you can then compare pricing.  Many custom framing shops offer a range of options depending on the type and material of frame, the matting you choose, and what items you'll want mounted.  To help keep your cost low, it's a good idea to have a couple of ideas for what you would like to do, in case adjustments need to be made according to your budget.  Be sure to ask if the company has coupons or promotions as well.

Enjoy Your Masterpiece

Once you've got your souvenirs framed, you'll love sitting back and enjoying the memory of your vacation! Who knows what's next? You might decide to frame those medals from your college swim team!
